British Grand Prix will go ahead on Sunday

A series of explosions that rocked London's public transit system Thursday morning will not prevent the British Grand Prix from taking place this weekend.

The famous Silverstone race course is situated in central England, roughly an hour north of London.

Practice for the race will be held on Friday with qualifying conducted on Saturday and the race Sunday.

"Silverstone has a well-established set of security measures in place that have been agreed and planned in detail with police and other agencies," race organizers said in a statement. "Silverstone is confident that these measures are adequate to ensure the safety of all attending."

Renault's Fernando Alonso won last week's French Grand Prix and the Spaniard tops the drivers' standings with 69 points. Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren-Mercedes is in second place with 45 points with 10 of 19 races completed.
