Armstrong relieved despite losing yellow jersey

Voigt does not expect to keep the jersey and Armstrong said he did not expect the German's CSC team mates, now dedicated to helping Italy's Ivan Basso, to work hard to defend it.

"Voigt isn't their guy for the high mountains so we can't get fooled into thinking they're going to do a lot of work, we'll still have to do our share," he said.

Given Discovery Channel's rather disappointing performance in the first climbs, the question is whether Armstrong's team are up to the task.

"We were better than yesterday and that's good going into the rest day," Armstrong said.

Armstrong will start Tuesday's 192-km 10th stage from Grenoble to Courchevel two minutes and 18 seconds behind Voigt in the standings.
