The New York Knicks have reached an agreement to hire Larry Brown as coach, negotiating the final details with his agent Wednesday and clearing the way for the Knicks to introduce him at Madison Square Garden, his agent said.

The team called a news conference for noon, where Brown will be introduced as the 22nd coach in the club's history.

The deal comes less than 10 days after Brown left the Detroit Pistons.

"We have it just about done. There are a couple of things to tidy up," agent Joe Glass said early Wednesday evening.

Within an hour, everything was in place except Brown's signature on the documents. He was expected to take care of that task Thursday morning.

In 22 seasons as a coach in the National Basketball Association, Brown has compiled a 987-741 record. The title he won with the Detroit Pistons in 2004 was the only NBA championship of his career.
