24 miners suffocated to death in Henan

Twenty-four miners were suffocated to death Tuesday due to high gas density in a coal mine in Yuzhou, Henan Province.

Two others were missing at the Xingfa Mine in Wenshu Township of Yuzhou City, the State Administration of Work Safety said on its website.

Fourty-three miners were underground when the accident occured at 22:30, with 17 managing to ascend to the ground, the administration said.

Henan Vice-Governor Shi Jichun has rushed to the scene for rescue.
