Barca lose out to Juve in final warm up for season
BARCELONA, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Spanish champions Barcelona were dealt a penalty shoot-out defeat by their Italian counterparts Juventus in their final run-out before the start of the Spanish season at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.
But a neatly fashioned strike from midfielder Andres Iniesta midway through the second half and a spectacular drive from Giovanni van Bronckhorst three minutes later put the Catalans in front. Juve striker David Trezeguet levelled the game with another penalty a minute from time after a clear foul by Edmilson and Fabio Capello's side secured victory 4-2 in the shoot out. It was the first time since 1994 that Barcelona had lost the Hans Gamper trophy, the traditional curtain-raiser to the Catalan club's season. Barca begin the defence of their crown with a match at promoted Alaves on Saturday, while Juve start theirs at home to Chievo Verona on Sunday.
