Davenport won the event for the third time, winning previously in 2001 and 2004. Mauresmo withdrew in last year's final against Davenport because of a leg muscle strain after dropping the first set.

Davenport, with a 54-8 record, is in a close race with top-ranked Maria Sharapova and third-ranked Kim Clijsters for the year-end No. 1 ranking.

Davenport spoke last year about retiring after a string of injuries but then enjoyed a second wind, finishing 2004 in the top spot.

"I've really enjoyed the last 14 months — if I keep playing like this, I have no thoughts of retiring," she said.
