China continues domination at EAG (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-11-06 10:31 China hauled 9 gold medals out of 9 swimming
events here on Saturday at the 4th East Asian games, following a harvest of 20
out of 24 events in the previous three days.
Chinese veteran Zeng
Qiliang, 100m breaststroke champion at the games, shaved 0.16 seconds off the
Asian record to win men's 50m breaststroke in a time of 27.83 seconds. Zeng's
teammate Wang Haibo was second and South Korea's You Seunghun came in third.
"I geared up for the games after national games and got a good form here. But
I am not sure where is my next arena for I think I am getting old," said
31-year-old Zeng.
Zhu Yingwen won women's 50m freestyle in 24.87 seconds,
0.38 seconds ahead of her teammate Xu Yanwei over the final strokes.
"No
pressure at all here for me. I am the best in the event in China and I know my
opponents well," said Zhu.
Huang Shaohua beat his teammate Chen Zuo, the
Asian record holder, in men's 100m freestyle to add another gold to China in a
time of 49.79 seconds.
"My time is my personal best today. But it's not
the Asian best yet and I will make efforts for that next time," said Huang.
Women's 400m freestyle went to Chinese Tang Jingzhi with a time of 4:14.89,
who only ranked fourth in the event at national games.
"I did not perform
well in national games. This gold will help build up my confidence again. It's
good enough to win the race although it was not my best time," said
Tang.
Zhou Jiawei, who broke the 50m
butterfly Asian record two days earlier, won the men's 100m butterfly with a new
games record of 52.70 seconds.
