China's Super League club Shandong Luneng are probably facing their biggest
setback in their ten-year professional football history as the coach and
playmakers of the team are handed a brutal ban by Asian Football Association
(AFC).
The rulings the AFC Disciplinary Committee made on November 10, claim
that Shandong Coach Lijbisa Tumbakovic, skipper Zheng Zhi and Bulgarian
international Predrag Pazin are found of guilty in the second leg of Champions
League quarterfinal against Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia on September 21,
2005.
Ljubisa Tumbakovic, who "physically assaulted the first assistant referee,"
was banned from holding any official position at any clubs at the international
and domestic level for six months starting November 9.
Zheng Zhi, skipper of the club and China's national team, was banned from
playing any kind of competitive football for six months, starting November 9, as
he was found of abusing and spitting at the match referee.
Shandong's Bulgarian defender Predrag Pazin has been suspended from playing
for clubs at all levels and national teams at the international level for 18
months, starting from November 9. Pazin "verbally abused and spitted at the
match referee".
