Stelios Giannakopoulos scored the only goal for Bolton with a diving header
in the 84th minute to help his team beat Arsenal 1-0 and knock the defending
champions out of the English competition.
Arsenal won the FA Cup three of the previous four seasons and reached the
final game four times in five years. The team's latest loss comes four days
after Arsenal lost to Wigan in the League Cup semifinals.
Chelsea, the English Premier League leader, trailed after James McFadden gave
Everton the lead with a header before halftime. But Lampard, who has scored
several big goals for Chelsea this season, scored with a low shot in the 73rd
minute to force another game between the two teams.
Other English Premier League teams also had scares. Middlesbrough was held to
a 1-1 tie by Coventry, Birmingham tied with Reading 1-1 and Charlton got a
last-minute winner to beat League Two Leyton Orient 2-1.
The biggest upset came from League One Brentford, which beat Sunderland 2-1.
Dudley Campbell scored two goals to knock out the last-place Premier League
team. Julio Arca scored for Sunderland.
Other big winners included Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester City and West
Ham. City beat another Premier League team, Wigan, 1-0. West Ham did the same,
downing Blackburn 4-2.
