The following is the biographical sketch of Bai Lichen, who was just elected vice-chairman of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC):

Bai Lichen, male, born in 1941, native (Hui) of Lingyuan, Liaoning Province.

Graduated from Agricultural Engineering Department of Shenyang Agricultural College in 1964, specialized in agricultural mechanization; joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1971.

Studied in Shenyang Agricultural College in 1960-1964; technician at Agricultural Mechanization Institute under Yingkou Agricultural College, Liaoning Province, in 1964-1968; clerk of Organization Department of the CPC Yinkou Municipal Committee, and deputy section chief of Personnel Bureau, of Yinkou City in 1972-1980; deputy secretary and secretary of the suburban district of the CPC Yingkou Municipal Committee in 1980-1983; deputy secretary of the CPC Yinkou Municipal Committee, and mayor, of Yingkou City in 1983-1984; secretary of the CPC Panjin Municipal Committee, andassistant to governor, of Liaoning Province in 1984-1985; Standing Committee member of the CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee, and vice-governor of Liaoning Province, in 1985-1986.

Deputy secretary of the CPC Regional Committee, vice-chairman, acting chairman and chairman of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,in 1986-1997.

Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives in 1997-1998.

Vice-chairman of the 9th CPPCC National Committee, and secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group, and president of All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives since 1998; member of the 13th to 16th CPC Central Committee.
