Changchun Film Festival opens

The Seventh China Changchun Film Festival opened Monday in Changchun, capital of northeastern JilinProvince and one of the largest film production bases in the country.

"On celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of films in China, the Seventh China Changchun Film Festival will give greaterimpetus to China's film industry," said Zhao Shi, deputy director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and director of the organization committee of the film festival.

A total of 87 films will compete for the Golden Deer awards including Excellent Chinese Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Technological Innovation, Box Office Intake and New Rising Actors in Film in the next two days.

Different from the former sessions, the Changchun film festivalhas newly established three awards, i.e. awards to Technological Innovation, Box Office Intake and New Rising Actors in Film while calling off the Award to Best Foreign Language Film.

"Our aim is to tap potentials for the Chinese language films and to search for the best combining point of the market and the art," said An Li, deputy director of the organization committee ofthe film festival.

Established in 1992 in Changchun dubbed "the cradle of Chinese film," the China Changchun Film Festival has become a major event for Chinese film industry.

The closing ceremony will be held on Wednesday. During the festival such activities as the Australian Film Week, the Film Week of the Republic of Korea and an exhibition for the Chinese films in the past 100 years will also be held.
