Of War and other minor things
T.P.Jackstraw  Updated: 2004-02-21 10:08

I know that the history of mankind is full of bloodshed and horror, that war seems to have been an inevitable part of our past.

However, I submit, that in nearly every instance, there could have been another way, a better way! Often, this required one party or another to demonstrate patience and sincerity!

What I like about the current Chinese government is just that, they demonstrate and espouse patience, I think this is clear wisdom!

Madeline Albright, the US Secretary of State, under President Clinton, had met with Mr. Kim Jong Il, just at the close of the Clinton tenure. Before the meeting, she said there were many ugly rumors about the man and she didn't know what to expect at their meeting. She came away saying that Mr. Kim was intelligent, engaging, charming and interested. A flurry of activity and a series of efforts in good intentions followed. President Bush, Secretary Colin Powell and Condi Rice (from the same lineage as her 'think tank' sister, Madeline) did not continue the dialog! Instead, Mr. Bush immediately posted on his ass! Now, China has to straighten out the cowboy's knee-jerk 'by-golly' idiocy.

Hmmphhh!

There is no promise that a President Kerry will do any better than President Bush, is there?

Seems to me, that too many times in history, egoists have been in a position of power, and have often acted without the requisite time, patience and examination that should have been exercised! In their own religion and persona, they should always look to minimize death and suffering, and not accept a cheap solution or an excuse for either!

The point is that there is a lack of consistency in the US and there is always the threat of a haunting spirit, lurking in the shadows -- the specter of the self-justifed democracy, a theme in Western thinking that was placed there by the beguilled thinking of our religious background!
