If there is a day when many, especially those who are physically challenged, feel the thrills of challenges, savor the glory of triumphs and share the pain of defeats in a sporting event in the city, the Hong Kong Triathlon Challenge Race is the one.

Science Park in Sha Tin will be the venue of this special annual event featuring over 1,200 participants Sunday, according to Sportsoho Media Limited, the event's organizer.

The opening ceremony was held at the Time Square Friday to tell people about the objectives of the game - creating a space where the disabled can heartily mingle with the "able" ones. Aside from separate races for the able and the disabled, there will be relay races featuring the both.

Cherie Yeung Siu-fong, a 20-year-old schoolgirl, who had her both arms amputated following an accident when she was a child, said she expected more challenges and fun this time.

"Last year, I took part in just the running event. But this time I will be part of a relay team and compete in cycling and swimming as well," added Yeung who will get a partner to help her steer a specially designed bicycle.

"It's not a normal two-seat bike. The steering seat is on the right and I am going to sit on the left. All I need to do is to move along," said Yeung.

Yeung, who won a bronze medal in the relay last year, is now preparing hard. She is swimming for more than four hours a week for the relay and single events.
