Britain in the 21st century is best represented by model Kate Moss, according to a new survey.

Fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar surveyed 1,000 people for an issue celebrating "everything British".

The poll found that "old Britain" was represented by a stiff upper lip, impeccable manners and wartime leader Winston Churchill.

But 33-year-old Moss, who was notoriously photographed allegedly taking cocaine, best sums up modern Britain, along with multiculturalism and "chavs".

The survey also recealed that the Burberry trench coat is Britain's most iconic fashion item, while 54 per cent said Topshop is their favourite brand.

The survey appears in the September issue of the magazine.
