Zhangfeng Port is located in Laying county, 4 kilometers due west of Zhangfeng, the location of the Longchuan County Government of Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture.
The Zhangfeng port only extends 92 kilometers, though it is attached to northern Myanmar's Leiji Port, so it has been an important trade port between China and Myanmar since ancient times. During the 1920s, China imported and exported cotton, cloth, yellow silk, sulfur, and groceries from and to Myanmar.
In 1991, Zhangfeng was listed as a Chinese State Council-approved second-class port. Six years later, the Myanmaran government appointed Leiji to be the only port for trade between Myanmar's Kachin State and China. In 2009, the Yunnan Provincial Development and Reform Commission approved the overall plan to develop Zhangfeng Port into a border economic cooperation zone. According to the plan, Shanghai Lifengle Real Estate Corporation will work together with Longchuan county to construct and develop the Zhangfeng Border Economic Cooperation Zone.
