According to sources, as of September last year, the 2007-2010 Affordable Housing Project has built 897 homes, and 383 low-income households have moved into the new houses.

This year, Mangshi plans to build another 500 low-cost rental houses with a total space of 20000 square meters.

Chen Xicheng, deputy director-general of the Provincial Urban-Rural Development Department stated that, “we must give priority to low-cost public housing projects and gradually incorporate low-cost rental schemes into these projects”.

He also stressed that the housing problems facing low-income families should be preferentially addressed, and real estate development land should only be made available once subsidized housing projects have been implemented.

To ensure reasonable allocation of the low-cost rental houses, a strict examination system has been established. Every suspect applicant reported by members of the public will be checked. Information on the applicants, who are approved, will be available on the internet or in the community at a later date.
