When Lin Bin, a pro bono organizer of online donations, heard of the predicament of a girl with leukemia in Pingtan county, Fujian province, he immediately posted a message on social media, on Jan 26, calling on the public to chip in, he managed to pull in more than 100,000 yuan in just two days, local media have reported.

Lin, who had organized a similar campaign for a child with leukemia about a year ago, visited the girl and her family at Fujian Xiehe Hospital, in the city of Fuzhou and got a better understanding of the situation, The girl, Lin Siqi, 7, was suffering from a high fever, triggered by a lung infection, on Jan 2, and her family had spent every penny on chemotherapy bills, and were still at least 600,000-yuan short.

But, Lin’s message soon triggered a very strong response and encouraged Majiajun, a local charity to make a donation and to help spread the news. And one kind citizen from the city of Xiamen even gave 10,000 yuan to the family, on Jan 27.

And, the donations just kept pouring in, reaching more than 106,000 yuan by the afternoon of Jan 28, enough to pay for her first-phase of treatment.

In commenting on his effort, Lin said philosophically, “Her status has gotten better, and she can smile and draw pictures on bed.”
