The Hubei Provincial Public Security Department, Internal Revenue Service of Hubei Province and Hubei Local Taxation Bureau held a joint news conference on Oct 25 on the crackdown on fake invoices.
Since May, Hubei public security organs have solved 283 cases related to invoices, seizing 9.26 million fake invoices and detaining 203 suspects. The 13 major cases in the province involved about 6.5 billion yuan($1.07 billion), and the crackdown has thus saved about 190 million yuan.
Hubei and other provinces cooperated in the investigations of a total of 113 other cases, involving 40 billion yuan, and officials seized 9.26 million fake invoices and 36 computer printers and offset printers during the campaign.
Various official departments of Hubei cooperated with the Ministry of Public Security and the State Administration of Taxation to carry out the crackdown.
The Hubei Public Security Department set up an action group to inspect various industries, including transportation, refined oil products and pharmaceuticals, focusing on special invoices for value-added tax. They also looked for cases of fraud related to export tax rebates.
The Hubei Provincial Public Security Department said that there are two main types of invoices, online invoices and paper invoices. Officers said that members of the public can check online invoices using the invoice's serial number, and paper invoices should bear a special mark, and the seals should also be checked.
