Jilin province and Taiwan came up with a "sister lake" program by joining Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan with Jilin's Songhua Lake, according to its tourism administration.

The two areas say they will promote development and tourism together and have exchanges in tourist services and recreation, and will organize seminars regularly to share management experiences and look for ways to make full use of their natural and historical resources.

They are also planning more themed trips where the focus is on local history and culture and the administrations will support travel agencies in both the scenic areas for long-term cooperation.
