Searching for 'big smile labeled restaurants' for dinning

2015-08-19

The city of Siping, Jilin province has begun a "Searching for 'big smile' labeled restaurants" campaign, as of Aug 18, reports chinajilin.com, noting that this marks the overall implementation of "ranking food safety with smile signs" policy in Jilin province.

In describing the move, the Jilin Food and Drug Administration has said that restaurants across the province have been told that their facial expression sign is a clear indication to consumers of the safety of their food, since Aug 18, and this, in turn, is just a part of a bigger national campaign on food safety.

Earlier, the central government began suggesting a "ranking of food safety with smiles" activity and encouraged provinces to make clear signs to indicate the food safety of a restaurant to let consumers know. This policy has been welcomed across the nation as numerous places take action.

After some preparation, Jilin implemented the "ranking food safety with smile signs" policy with three levels: A represented by a green big smile to indicate food of the safest; B with a yellow mild smile to indicate food that is good or okay; and C with a red crying face to indicate not very good food.

So, people are encouraged to choose A Level restaurants that is labeled by a big smile, according to the administration.
