Tonghua residents celebrate V-day anniversary

2015-09-04

Residents in Tonghua city, Jilin province, marked the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression on Sept 3 with various activities.

From the elderly to the children in primary schools, from farmers to voluntary folk performers, thousands of people in the border city of southeastern Jilin launched Peking opera play performances, dances and public memorial singing sessions. They also flew painted balloons at plazas and schools to remember history and mourn revolutionaries.

"I'm so excited for this big day where Chinese people can participate in the event," said Li Mingzi, a resident of a Korean (Chosen) ethnic group in his 60s, during performances at the Guandong Cultural Market, which saw over 400 Tonghua citizens of the Korean ethnic group participate.

Tonghua, with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to its south across the Yalu River, is a city famous for traditional Chinese medicine production.
