Jilin looking for balanced development to revive the economy

The governor of Jilin province has called for consolidation and a stronger public sector and development of the private sector to push an economic revival, during a visit to enterprises, industrial parks and construction sites in the city of Jilin, the province's second largest city, on April 5.

Jiang Chaoliang's first stop on the tour was a tire plant where he got a description of the company's progress in constructions work, technological innovations, logistics, and branding and commented on how necessary and important innovation is for development and called for more R&D input and commercialization of research results.

Jiang went on to call for lower costs in logistics and finance to cut unnecessary burdens, then went on to the site of a future vocational education park, where he pointed to the importance of vocational education in economic and social development, and the need for top-quality application-oriented professionals.

The third stop was the Qipan Group, an agricultural science and technology company, with Internet and cloud computing services, where Jiang studied the information on the company’s website and said that Jilin should take the lead in agricultural modernization and said he will crack down on any behavior that harms farmers, such as selling them worthless fertilizer or seeds.

Jiang praised another agricultural science and technology company for its achievements in informatization and real-time management of agricultural data and called for more innovative thinking about agriculture’s potential, then at a seminar afterwards, noted that the private economy is important, as are a better business environment and preferential policies to boost the private economy.

He concluded by saying the city needs more supply-side structural reforms, and to follow the five targets of the reforms for the next year including reduced capacity, reduced stock, less leveraging, cost-reducing and filing the gaps in weak growth areas to ensure economic stability, and people’s livelihood.

Taking part in the seminar were Xijie, Jilin provincial secretary, and officials from provincial and municipal departments.
