Being known as the icon of Tianjin’s architectures, the historic western-style buildings in Wudadao (Five Avenues) Sightseeing Street, a scenic spot of this harbor city in North China, attracted more than 250,000 tourists during the week-long national holiday.

The outlandish tourist area saw a year-on-year increase of 10 percent and more than half of them came from all over the country.

Each building in the area has its own story, which is the tourists’ greatest interest. Jin Pengyu, a famous architect in Tianjin, volunteered to provide personalized explanations of different styles of architecture in Wudadao during this year’s National Day holidays.

As a volunteer tour guide in this famous sightseeing street, Jin has served residents and visitors for more than 20 years, offering new flavors to tourists.

During his tour with a group of tourists from Central China’s Hunan province, he not only guided them to historical figures’ former residences and iconic western-style buildings, but also showed them former residences of famous people from Hunan province.

Jin was fully occupied during the holiday as many tourists and expert delegations from outside Tianjin expected to communicate with him in person.

Jin said that many high-end tourists are no longer satisfied with routine guide services, so he starts to provide personalized guidance according to tourists’ backgrounds.

Based on his research for decades, Jin continues to update his knowledge of the western-style buildings. He was invited to help with a promotion project in Beijing, which aimed at attracting foreign and domestic investment for 42 western-style buildings in Tianjin’s Heping district.

"I felt very excited that a total of 11 deals were completed at the promotion fair and a number of headquarters and regional centers will settle in the area," said Jin.
