In a speech on clean governance that he delivered on March 21, the full text of which was released on Sunday, Premier Li Keqiang vowed more efforts to promote clean governance, and he stressed reinforced supervision over the use of State assets and a crackdown on financial corruption.

Li said "powerful" measures will be taken to prevent the loss of State assets and curb corruption in the financial sector, and the authorities will further enhance the supervision over State-owned enterprises and address the risks in the financial sector.

He also stressed that those who steal and sell confidential financial information will be strictly punished according to the law to safeguard the normal order in the financial sector.

Premier Li's promise of a harsh crackdown on corruption in the financial sector drew wide public praise. On the same day that the speech was released, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China, the top anti-graft authority, announced that Xiang Junbo, chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, is being investigated for suspected serious Party discipline violations.

Xiang's case not only indicates the anti-corruption work is being deepened in the financial sector, but also shows the authority's determination to relentlessly fight against corruption in the financial sector.

Fighting corruption in the financial sector is necessary to build a clean and efficient financial management system, and efficiently maintain financial order and guarantee financial security. Anti-corruption work in the financial sector has become one of the focuses of the anti-corruption campaign at present.
