Snowy egret perches on alligator

In this photo taken on December 30,2009, a snowy egret took a risky ride on the back of a passing alligator in Florida. The bird, a small white Heron, obviously mistook the swimming killer for a floating log, a disguise which usually helps snare dinner - not passengers. Lucky for the Egret, the Gator didn't notice the freeloader who perched on his back as he made his way through the pond. The reptile must have been full of Christmas spirit, because the cheeky bird got away without becoming a feathery snack, in fact the puzzled gator only noticed the bird once it had flapped away.
