River runs dry as drought lingers in C China

The remnants of a boat lie in the dried out river bed of the Xiangjiang River in Changsha in Central China's Hunan province, Nov 9, 2010. Due to a persistent drought since October, the water level in this area has dropped to 25.08 meters, 2 centimeters below the minimum water supply level, threatening the safety and supply of water for neighboring communities. The Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has taken up measures such as transferring water from the river's upper reaches and plans to water intake equipment to the center of the river to ensure the normal water supply for communities in the dry season.
