'Cotton Granny' helps farmers thrive

Li Wenying, a 78-year-old former agronomist, works in a cotton field in Hongzhi village of Zhijiang city, Central China's Hubei province. Li has been giving free training and lectures on cotton plants throughout villages for more than 20 years, after retiring from 30 years as a senior agronomist. Li has helped more than 10,000 rural families to increase their income by 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) and is well-known as "Cotton Granny". [Photo/Xinhua]
