A teacher's commitment to an island school

Zhang Quanzhi, 36, picks up school students to school on a ferry in Huangshan, East China’s Anhui province, May 11, 2011. Located on an island in Taiping Lake reservoir, 20 kilometers from the nearest dock, Machuan Primary School currently has only one student. In the past the school has had up to 27 students at one time, but by the time this picture was taken, the school had just five. This September, four of those students transferred to another school, leaving just one student remaining. The only teacher of the school, Zhang Quanzhi has been teaching at the school for 16 years. "I will teach him well even if only one student remains in the school. The school lasts as long as there is a student." [Photo/Xinhua]
