Banned additive sold in steamed bun capital

Bottles containing artificial flavorings are displayed on the shelves of a shop in Jiangzhen town, Anqing city of East China’s Anhui province, Sept 17, 2011. The small town, famous for its pastries, is packed with shops selling essence used in stuffing for buns. On a road less than 1,000 meters, six such shops can be seen offering the product for sale. On Sept 13, several steamed bun shops in Beijing selling the well-known chain Zhenggongfu were accused of illegally mixing essence into their meat stuffing to boost flavor. Many of the Zhenggongfu bun shops are run by people from Jiangzhen town. [Photo/CFP]
