Street sale of dozens of Tibetan mastiffs

Dozens of Tibetan mastiffs are being sold by a man in Chongqing, Southwest China, Nov 15, 2011. More than half of the 36 mastiffs were being kept outside the cage, scaring off some of the passers-by. "They are only three months old and would not hurt people,“ the vendor said. The mastiffs were brought from northwestern Qinghai province and are being sold in several regions, he said, and their prices range from 2,000 yuan ($314) to 30,000 yuan ($4,710). Officials at the local industrial and commercial bureau said the mastiffs were being sold illegally and posed a threat to people. Tibetan mastiffs are thought by some people to be a dangerous and aggressive kind of dogs. [Photo/CFP]
