Lei Feng (1940-62) is a heroic model in China who was known for his altruism and devotion to the country. In 1963, a "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng" campaign was initiated nationwide by Chairman Mao Zedong and since then Lei Feng has become a cultural icon representing earnestness and service.
