A forum on international talents and regional development will be held in Chaoyang district Oct 30 as part of the Beijing CBD International Business Festival.

About 200 delegates from both home and abroad, including scholars, government officials, Fortune 500 executives and human resources directors will be in attendance.

Local government officials said this is the first time for them to arrange the forum as part of the CBD International Business Festival. They were convinced the forum could convey CBD's desire for international talents to a wider audience.

As Beijing's window to the outside world, CBD plays an essential role in attracting and selecting international talents, as well as in educating, utilizing and retaining them, said local officials.

Statistics show that CBD now has nearly 20,000 people with study experiences overseas. About 1,000 hold a master degree or above, a figure that continues to rise.

In October last year, a branch of the Beijing Overseas Talents Center was established in CBD. The institution is set to bring in persons educated overseas who are qualified to assist in areas of local economic development.

Last June, Chaoyang district officials established an overseas talents club to foster communication as well as promote and implement related policies.

All qualified candidates working or setting up their own business in Chaoyang district are eligible for membership.

So far, 70 people have joined the club, most of them hailing from the financial, high-tech, health and pharmaceutical sectors.

The club often invites academic experts, government officials and successful entrepreneurs to give lectures and share experiences. It also regularly holds member forums. Other activities include salons, sports competitions and outdoor activities.

The Beijing CBD International Business Festival will take place Oct 28 to Nov 7.
