The State Council, or China's Cabinet, recently approved the opening of the Changxing Island Port in Dalian, a coastal city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, local officials said during a press conference on Saturday.

According to the approval document, 68 berths will be opened in the Changxing Island Port, said Li Changshun, deputy director of the Dalian Changxing Island Lingang Industrial Zone.

Affiliated institutions, including a bureau of maritime affairs, a bureau of inspection and quarantine and a frontier inspection bureau, will be established, he said.

The Dalian Changxing Island Lingang Industrial Zone features four leading industries of petrochemicals, shipbuilding and ocean engineering, equipment manufacturing, and harbor logistics.
