A farmer skilled at making decorative wooden handicrafts from waste off-cuts has garnered the attention of people in the city of Sanmenxia, Henan province.

Luo Yanhong is a popular artist among locals in the Lushi county of the city. Inspired by the beautiful scenery of peonies in Luoyang, a city close to Sanemnxia, he began to create 3D wooden peony handicrafts from the waste wood found in a valley near his workplace, including deadwoods, coconut shells and pinecones.

After countless attempts, Luo finally figured out a suitable way to create his works using the waste materials. He crafts pine cones into flowers and coconut shells into leaves. His work "Pinecone 3D Peony" won a national patent in 2005 and enjoys a growing popularity in neighboring areas.

At present, Luo is expanding his works to a wider range of areas, such as "Pinecone Plum Blossom" and "Pinecone Koi", which also prove to be popular.
