Moral models recognized in Huaian, Jiangsu

A ceremony recognizing the selfless efforts of moral models was held in Qingpu district, Huaian, Jiangsu province on June 4, to honor citizens who have dedicated their lives to charitable services, News.xhby.net reported.

Honored at the event was Yang Yuqin, who has volunteered and carried out good deeds for many years, and who has transformed her house into a shelter offering a temporary home to left-behind children and the solitary elderly. She has also transformed her home into a workstation for volunteering.

With Yang’s aid, more than one hundred unwanted children have grown up healthily and become independent. She said that she has devoted herself entirely to her volunteer work.

Yang Sen, a volunteer for an emergency rescue team, spends some 240 hours annually helping those in need.

In her three years a teacher, Gu Chunyan, provided her students with free boiled eggs to help with their nutrition.

Wu Hang, was Huaian’s first person to donate their body to medical science, after her death in 2011.

The event was broadcast live online and on the radio, attracting tens of thousands of comments, with netizens almost unanimously agreeing that the stories warmed the soul.
