Hungarian peace activist cyclist Jozsef Zelei embarked Monday on a 3,000-kilometer ride across the southern parts of Europe to promote a violence-free Europe.

Zelei, a resident of Eger in north east Hungary, left Budapest's Beke Square at the symbolic time of 0911 local time to mark the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States, and he is expected to arrive in Greece's Corfu Island in about three weeks.

During his third annual peace tour, Zelei will cycle through Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy and Greece covering about 100-250 kilometers a day.

He will also collect signatures of support from mayors, diplomats and public figures in his Book of Peace.

In September 2005 peace ride, Zelei cycled 2,200 kms through seven countries before reaching his final destination in London.
