Beijing Olympic organizers have enlisted internationally renowned filmmaker Ang Lee and China's senior IOC member He Zhenliang in their campaign to create the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Games.

Also joining He and Lee as newly appointed culture and art consultants of the ceremonies was composer Wu Zuqiang.

BOCOG President Liu Qi extended his congratulations to them, saying he hopes that every consultant, with rich experience and far-reaching vision, will provide precious suggestions and advice to the creation team.

"People around the world have extremely high expectations on the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Games. I will definitely devote all my wisdom to the work," said He Zhenliang, who is a long-time IOC member since 1981.

Lee Ang, who won the 2005 Academy Best Director Award for the film Brokeback Mountain, also committed himself to the challenging task.

"I feel honored to be appointed as a consultant for the Olympic ceremonies and I will try my best to fulfil the mission," Lee, who couldn't attend the presentation ceremony, said in a speech read by his assistant Li Liangshan.

BOCOG unveiled a high-profile creation team for the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies in April this year. China's best known film director Zhang Yimou was selected as the chief director, while Hollywood film maker Stephen Spielberg was among a seven-man list of culture and art consultants.

The Beijing Olympic Games will take place Aug. 8-24, 2008.
