Malaysia's state of Malacca will host next year's Malaysian Formula One (F1) Powerboat Grand Prix, an official said on Monday.

Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam of the Malacca State told reporters about this after receiving the Most Distinguished Order award from Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the parent body for F1 Powerboat in Malacca City.

Malaysia H20 Sports Sdn Bhd, organizer of the event, said that next year's championship would be held either in July or August and Malacca would be the seventh or eighth circuit of the 12 world circuits.

Malaysia first held such championship in 2001 in its southern state of Johor.
