Honda-backed Super Aguri have signed Dutchman Giedo van der Garde as their reserve driver for next year, the Formula One team said on Friday.

The 21-year-old competed most recently in the F3 Euroseries, a junior category. He has also been part of McLaren's young driver support programme.

"He is a young driver with much potential," said team boss Aguri Suzuki.

Super Aguri failed to score a point in their debut season this year but are hoping to move up the grid in 2007 with Briton Anthony Davidson and Japan's Takuma Sato.

With all 11 teams restricted to two cars only on race Fridays, compared to three this year, it remains to be seen how much track time van der Garde will get during the season.
