Toro Rosso F1 team appoint new technical director

Italian Giorgio Ascanelli has joined Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso as technical director, the Formula One team said on Monday.

Ascanelli, 48, has spent the last five years as a technical director overseeing Maserati's racing activities but before that worked in Formula One with former champions Benetton, McLaren and Ferrari.

The Italian was race engineer at Ferrari to Austrian Gerhard Berger, the former racing driver who is now Toro Rosso's co-owner.
