Carl Edwards ended a 52-race winless streak by pulling away to win the NASCAR race at Brooklyn, Michigan, on Sunday.

The Ford-driving Edwards had not won a race since November 2005. He did a backflip off the car after the race to celebrate his fifth career win.

"This one is for you, Dad," Edwards told reporters as he celebrated in the victory lane on Father's Day in the United States. "I have been waiting to give him a trophy."

Martin Truex finished second and Tony Stewart was third. They were followed by Casey Mears and Dale Earnhardt Jr. All drove Chevrolets.
