LHASA - Tibet's 10th Sports Games kicked off in Lhasa on Sunday afternoon.

According to organizers, nearly 1,500 athletes from all over the region, will be competing for 40 gold medals in six events including track and field, basketball, football, table tennis, and so on during eight days' competition.

As the largest sports event in Tibet, there are a total of 11 teams this time, among which seven teams represents the seven prefectures of the Tibet including Xigazi, Lhoka, Ngari, Nagqu, Nyingchi, Chamdo, and Lhasa respectively.

The first Tibet Sports Games was held in 1960. Since then the sports and the regional fitness levels have been greatly improved.
