China Open organizers confirmed on Wednesday that Zheng will skip the tournament and leave for the United States for surgery to her left wrist.
Zheng who made the last four in the women's doubles at the recent US Open, has abandoned her plan for the ongoing Guangzhou Open WTA tournament and remains doubtful for the Asian Games slated for November in Guangzhou.
During the US Open tournament, Zheng had an X-ray which showed her injury in the wrist was getting worse.
"The injury was sustained in the Australian Open last year," said Zheng, "And I had been suffering from the injury the whole year."
After the surgery, Zheng is expected to spend three to six months in recovery.
