DHAKA - Bangladesh will compete in 17 events in the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou of China in November this year.

Shafiq Anwar, secretary of National Sports Council under Ministry of Youth and Sports of Bangladesh, told Xinhua Thursday the 17 events include archery, swimming, Wushu, cricket, golf, football, shooting, boxing, gymnastics, billiard, hockey, Kabadi, chess, athletics, taekwondo, weightlifting and karate.

Shafiq said Kabadi, the national game of Bangladesh, has the advantage to win some medals in the upcoming Asian Games. "Other events like shooting, golf and cricket are also hopeful to win some medals," he said.

Shafiq said the athletes of Bangladesh started training for the Asian Games in June. "But the athletes list for the games has not been finalized," he said.
