DONGGUAN - Chinese lifter Li Ping broke the snatch and total world record in women's 53kg weightlifting event at the 16th Guangzhou Asiad.

Li snatched 103kg in her third attempt, one kilogram more than the previous word record set by DPR Korea's Ri Song Hui in 2002.

The 22-year old strongwoman continued her momentum by jerking 127kg in her second attempt to secure the gold medal with a total of 230kg, 4kg more than the previous world record set by China's Qiu Hongxia in 2006.
