Costa, Neuer voted best Bundesliga players

BERLIN - Bundesliga players have voted for Douglas Costa and Manuel Neuer as best player and goalkeeper respectively, a semiannual poll by the German sports magazine Kicker revealed on Monday.

All 244 players of the 18 top-flight Bundesliga clubs participated in the survey and awarded the Bayern Munich duo with the best player and goalkeeper award.

Bayern's summer signing 2015 Douglas Costa, who joined on a five-year deal from Shakhtar Donetsk, sealed the top spot with 30.3 percent of the vote for outfield players. Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is the Bundesliga top scorer with 18 goals in 17 games, secured the second place with 23 percent. Bayern's Thomas Mueller landed on the third place with 14.8 percent.

Teammate Manuel Neuer retained the award for the best goalkeeper. The German international goalkeeper secured 31.6 percent of the vote for goalkeeper, followed by Cologne custodian Timo Horn (11.1 percent) and Hamburg goalie Rene Adler (10.7 percent).

In addition, Monchengladbach's new head coach Andre Schubert has been voted as the best Bundesliga coach with 35.2 percent. Felix Brych is with 21.3 percent of the vote the best referee according to the Bundesliga players.

Schalke's Leroy Sane is with 22.1 percent the winner of the first half of the season while Dortmund's Neven Subotic is the faller with 10.2 percent.

Third-placed Berlin is the most positive surprise midway through the season with 61.1 percent and last-placed Hoffenheim is the most negative surprise with 38.1 percent.

Hamburg host Bayern on January 22 to kick off the second half of the season.
