KABUL - Explosions and ensuing gunfight took place early Monday morning at the northern edge of Kabul International Airport with feared casualties, a security official said.

"Militants numbered four or five or six seized an under- construction building in Qasaba, a residential area in northern part of Kabul airport at around 04:30 a.m. local time and launched rocket propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the airport," a security official told Xinhua anonymously.

At least 15 RPGs were fired by the militants since the attack began, Mohammad Wasim, an eyewitness, told Xinhua.

He said security forces arrived at the site shortly after the first rocket was fired and gunfight is continuing there.

The witness also said the militants were armed with RPGs, heavy guns and suicide jackets.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack yet, but Taliban suspects are routinely behind such attacks.
