China's capital will promote management system certification in commerce and services to facilitate the Olympic Games.

In a joint effort with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce and Bureau for Industrial and Commercial Administration, the Beijing Quality Inspection and Quarantine Bureau issued a notice on the subject recently, director Wei Chuanzhong said Wednesday.

The implementation of advanced international attestation standards and management concepts is aimed at improving the management quality of the commercial and service industries; bringing about the standardized and upgraded management of the retail and wholesale mechanisms of commercial centers and supermarkets, as well as guaranteeing food safety in the distribution of agricultural and sideline products; helping the food and beverage industry to modernize and improve quality inspection and the quarantine of imported goods to be used in the commercial and service industries, he told a press conference at the Beijing Olympic Media Center.

Wei said his bureau will strive to make the public aware of the campaign's importance. It will add a new channel to its website to update the efforts to facilitate the Olympic Games, give certified offices and enterprises an opportunity to share their experience; and popularize attestation knowledge.

Together with its partners and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), the bureau will also hold training courses or workshops with government officials and enterprise staff to strengthen their awareness of attestation knowledge and standards.

The relevant agencies will also conduct checks to see if the attestation process is standardized or effective, investigate and treat any infringements, rigorously inspect the imported goods and speed up their passage through customs ports, Wei added.
