M4.6 quake hits juncture area between Jiangxi, Hubei

NANCHANG -- An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale hit the border area between the city of Ruichang in Jiangxi province and the Yangxin County in Hubei province at 11:20 p.m. Beijing Time Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter, with a depth of 17 km, was initially determined to be at 29.7 degrees north latitude and 115.4 degrees east longitude.
Xinhua reporters in Jiangxi provincial capital Nanchang, about 130 km southeast to the city of Ruichang, felt strong tremors on the seventh floor of their apartment building.
Residents in the city rushed onto the streets for fear of damages or injuries.
