Ex-NPC chief's body cremated
The body of Wan Li, former chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, was cremated on Wednesday. President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang, former president Hu Jintao and senior leaders Zhang Dejiang, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan and Zhang Gaoli attended the funeral at Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery. They paid their respects to Wan and condolences to his family. Wan died at the age of 99 in Beijing on July 15.
Funds granted to curb air pollution
Beijing has signed agreements with Langfang and Baoding in Hebei province to control air pollution, the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau said. Beijing provided 230 million yuan ($37 million) to each of the cities to curb air pollution, especially that caused by coal burning.
Actor sentenced on drug charge
An actor was sentenced to 10 months in prison on Wednesday for providing venues for drug use. Zhang Lin, 39, was found guilty of providing venues for three drug users, including actor Wang Xuebing, between 2010 and January this year, according to Chaoyang District People's Court. Police arrested him on March 9 after finding methamphetamine and marijuana at his apartment.

Security chief investigated
A deputy regional security chief in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region is being investigated for suspected corruption, the government said on Wednesday. Xie Hui, former deputy head of the region's Public Security Bureau, is suspected of serious breaches of discipline, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said in a statement.

Former officials tried for graft
Two former senior officials have been tried for corruption, local authorities said on Wednesday. Wang Yongchun, former deputy general manager of the China National Petroleum Corporation, stood trial on Monday at Xiangyang Intermediate People's Court. Wang is accused of taking bribes and abuse of power. On Wednesday, Yichang Intermediate People's Court heard the case of Guo Yongxiang, former head of the Sichuan provincial literacy and arts federation. Guo is charged with taking bribes.
Shanghai
Ex-president of dairy firm probed
Guo Benheng, a former president of Bright Dairy & Food, is being investigated on suspicion of violating Party discipline and laws, according to a statement on Wednesday on the website of the Shanghai Commission for Discipline Inspection. Guo resigned from the company in June, citing "personal reasons", the company said at the time.
